Max Yasgur played an important a role in the original Woodstock festival, which was held from August 15–18, 1969. Bethel, New York resident Max Yasgur agreed to lease his land to festival organizers for the historic event. Thirty-two acts performed at the festival, including the Grateful Dead, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Crocker, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Jimi Hendrix.
